With the shadow of the recession looming across the globe, the new decade it is hoped will bring cheer especially for India.

As Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee ushers in the first budget of the new decade, the question uppermost on everyone’s mind is, will he be able to deliver on his economic promise, and will he be able to balance political compulsions with the economic promise that he holds in terms of reforms.

In a lively CNBC TV18 Budget special Young India 2010, young corporate CEOs Malvinder Singh, Group Chairman, Religare and Fortis Healthcare, Puneet Dalmia, MD, Dalmia Cement, Kushagra Nayan Bajaj, Joint MD, Bajaj Hindusthan, Shravan Gupta, Executive VC & MD, Emaar MGF, Brotin Banerjee, MD & CEO, Tata Housing, Vishal Agarwal, MD, Visa Steel, and politicians Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress, and Jay Panda, MP, Rajya Sabha discussed their expectations from the Finance Minister in Budget 2010.

Budget 2009-10 Youth and Rural Friendly http://youngandrestlessindia.com/budget-2009-10-youth-and-rural-friendly/ http://youngandrestlessindia.com/budget-2009-10-youth-and-rural-friendly/#comments Thu, 09 Jul 2009 14:43:11 +0000 Raj http://youngandrestlessindia.com/?p=205 Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the government would make it a priority to reach 9% gross domestic product growth in the medium term and would seek to spend 9% of GDP on infrastructure development by 2014.  Budget release was heavy on spending for farmers and the poor, a core constituency of the Congress party-led ruling coalition, funded by a surge in borrowing and an increase in the fiscal deficit to 6.8 percent of GDP.  With the Budget supporting the rural economy, the bullish rural growth plans will get a major boost.  Read more about the impact of budget on fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies here.

The Economic Times article titled “Budget 2009-10: Happy about shiksha, naukri & Bluetooth” says that India’s Budget for 2009-10 is also focused on Young India.  The budget allows weaker sections access higher education with interest-free education loan which will enable poor and rural youth to have better access to education.  The article also notes that implementation to make sure the subsidy for poor students will reach the beneficiaries is tough.  Gen YRI concern on Energy and conservation was not tackled in the Budget.  But the verdict is that the FM has done a lot for students, a section of the salaried class, women and also for infrastructure.

What does the Indian Youth want from the budget? http://youngandrestlessindia.com/what-does-the-indian-youth-want-from-the-budget/ http://youngandrestlessindia.com/what-does-the-indian-youth-want-from-the-budget/#comments Mon, 06 Jul 2009 00:46:17 +0000 Raj http://youngandrestlessindia.com/?p=190 In the run up to the budget 2009-10, Mint surveyed the India youth and asked what they want from the budget.  Young and Restless India clearly want the existing policies to be implemented before introducing the new one.

Here is some of Indian Youth’s wish list from the survey:

  1. Tax Reduction: Most important concern was a reduction in taxes. Every youth surveyed is looking for some tax relief by raising the exemption limit of income tax and bringing down the tax rates.
  2. Education: the youth feels that higher/professional education in India is still not accessible enough.  Even at the primary level, the youth feels that the government needs to reconsider its policies.
  3. Gap between Rich and Poor: The Indian youth feels that the wealth is concentrated with a small group of people and so they want the government to reduce this gap between the rich and the poor.

See the video below to check out other items on wish list of Gen YRI.
